Were it all went wrong for Orlando Pirates FC in the 2018/19 season
When the 2018/19 season began the Orlando Pirates team was hopeful of clinching silverware, having boosted their team with quality players and their technical staff with the talents of Rhulani Mokhwena.
First, lets start with analyzing what went right at Orlando Pirates. Honetly, the Bucaneers have dished out some of the best football in the 2018/19 season. The Bucaneers, have been knocked out of the MTN 8 cup, unluck to lose the final to Baroka for the Telkom knockout and the Black Leaopards pulled a smash and grap result to kick Pirates out of the Nedbank cup. However, Pirates are still in the running of the league and is now the only cup they can win after being booted out of African Champion League.
What Pirates got right
Reinforcement of the tactical team
New Player Signings
New signings Vincent Pule, Ben Motshwari, Asavela Mbekile, Abel Mabaso, Paseka Mako and Kudakwashe Mahachi have strengthened the team.
What Pirates got wrong
Big Goalkeeper signing has not played a solitary game
Creative Middle-fielder
Xola Mlambo and Pule dip in form
Fullbacks not giving attacking options
Striking Department lack of goals

Big Goalkeeper signing has not played a solitary game
The big signing of the new season Brilliant Khuzwayo, has not played a solitary game for the Buccaneers. He was expected to stabalise the woes in the goalkeeping department Pirates have been having.
Creative Middle-fielder
Yes, Thembinkosi Lorch is the player that has shone the most for the Buccaneers. However, if opposition teams manage to keep Lorch and Pule quite, there is a clear lack of creativity in the middle. An attacking middle-fielder or number 10 is required to create more chances. In fact, Augustine Mulenga is the number 10 and has created only 6 assists clearly not good enough at the highest level of football in South Africa (SA). Mlambo, Motshwari, Mabaso and Makola playing far too deep to assist in scoring.
Xola Mlambo and Pule dip in form
The dip in form of Xola And Pule have hampered the momentum of Orlando Pirates, having started the season on fire and earning call ups to Bafana Bafana. Pule's dip in form has resulted in Pirates strugling to score and Xola;s form has yielded less assists and goals.
Fullbacks not giving attacking options
The right and left full back of Pirates do not provide Pirates with attacking option should the wingers fail to create chances. The same cannot be said about the Sundowns fullback. Attacking fullbacks also force winger to defend, hence tactically they will be more focused on defending which may make them ineffective going foward.
Striking Department lack of goals
Their striking department lacks goals and confidence. Justin Shonga, has 5 goals in 23 matches for the Buccaneers, while Gabuza has scored zero goals, after his dramatic scene when he walked off the pitch after Pirates fans were booing him. Actually, this paints a clear picture of the kind of season Pirates are having.
